Camden Yards

View through CrossRef
This chapter examines the conception of Camden Yards as designers worked together to produce Major League Baseball's first retro stadium by merging a thematic environment with a highly rationalized, consumption-oriented structure. The chapter covers the Baltimore Orioles, Maryland Stadium Authority, and HOK Sport. It also focuses on how designers attempted to incorporate Camden Yards physically into the surrounding urban landscape and symbolically into Baltimore's tourist-oriented redevelopment strategy. The chapter highlights how designers imagine what a space could be and do, render abstract notions into visual forms, and concretize them into the built environment. It examines the architectural and planning practices conceiving mallparks.
