This chapter explores Jean Vigo, Jacques Demy and Emmanuel Roblès' cinematic and literary depictions of the Mediterranean city of Nice. Additionally, Nice became a crossroad of cultures and migrations due to its proximity to Italy. Through the works of the aforementioned creators, Nice is depicted as capital-driven, cosmopolitan, glamorous, and full of life due to the iconic Promenade des Anglais. Promenade des Anglais also became a runway to human monetary success, passion, and moral depravity. The chapter notes Vigo's message concerning the joie de vivre in Nice on how death is inevitable but it does not keep people from living their lives to the fullest.
