Casting, Music, and Logistics in The Harder They Come : A Conversation with Robert Russell

Abstract: Robert "Bobby" Russell was in his early twenties when he began working with Perry Henzell producing cinema and television commercials in the 1960s. As an assistant director of The Harder They Come (dir. Perry Henzell, 1972, Jamaica), his job was to identify and recruit talent, procure props, and attend to production logistics, among other tasks. In this interview, Russell discusses the cultural and political climate that served as a backdrop to the production of the film as well as the challenges and triumphs he experienced. He also details his career that followed in film production, hospitality, and entertainment.
