Recent advances in Cr4+-doped tunable solid-state lasers
View through CrossRef
A comprehensive review of the performance of chromium-doped fosterite (Cr:Mg2SiO4), the first solid-state laser based on tetravalent chromium (Cr44) as a lasing ion, will be presented. Different modes of operation ranging from room-temperature gain-switched to cryogenic continuous-wave operation will be reviewed. Various methods for generation of femtosecond pulses will also be presented. The potential of utilizing Cr4+ ion-doped crystals for tunable solid state lasers in the l-2pm spectral region as well as various possible applications will be discussed. Future development of Cr4+-based lasers including some particularly attractive modes of operation such as mode-locked and diode-pumped operation will also be discussed.
