In November 2022, the Atlantic Branch of the Institute of Oceanology intended to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its veteran, Alexander Borisovich Zubin, who began working in the year of foundation the institute’s branch in Kaliningrad, 1958, as a member of its starting staff. With a diploma in oceanology from Leningrad University, Zubin has come a long way from a senior laboratory assistant to a senior researcher, a participant in many major scientific projects of the Institute of Oceanology aimed at studying the circulation and structure of the waters of the World Ocean, and in recent decades served as the scientific secretary of the Atlantic Branch. In this position, he proved himself as a historiographer of the scientific institution to which he served all his life and a talented popularizer of the glorious profession of a scientist-mariner. Life and work of A. B. Zubin is an example of selfless service to the beloved work both in the period of its formation and flourishing, and in the difficult years of the decline of the activity of domestic oceanology.
