Màscara kiwoyo o giwoyo

The kiwoyo or giwoyo mask was used for a variety of occasions: the initiation of young men, the planting of millet or the enthronement of a new community chief. It is defined by a rounded forehead, a pronounced nasal crest, sunken eyes, a triangular beard and incised geometric patterns. The dancer would wear it horizontally on his head, with his body covered in a fibre garment and a fly-swatter in each hand.
