Handwritten text on the back of the picture: “Uddevalla Artur Nilsson.” Writings kept in connection with the picture material: "Exhibition Artur Nilsson 26 May - 28 October 1984 The Gothenburg artist and photographer ARTUR NILSSON shows over the summer photographs taken in Gothenburg between 1920 to the present day as well as west coast pictures and peer portraits. At the same time, some twenty watercolours also appear with motifs from Bohuslän. Artur Nilsson was born in 1900 in a wooden house on Marieberg Street. The street is located in Majorna on Mount Gray. It was on the Grey Mountain that he played as a child, the favorite place was at the top of the mountain at the old entrance lighthouse overlooking the water. On Gråbergen, now built with high-rise buildings, he walked with his father and studied flowers and the birds' dwellings. As a child he bathed at Klippan at the Royal shipyard. The river’s water was so clean that there were bathhouses for men and women. The father was a copper- copper beater and the grandfather a stevedore in the port. Many street citizen families walked the harbour on Sundays and so did Artur Nilsson with his father. The literature brought Artur Nilsson into contact with 25 books of fate that the father bought. The Swedish, nowadays classical literature, was published in this series as well as foreign writers such as Victor Hugo and Zola. At the age of 14, Artur Nilsson began painting watercolours. The motifs were nearby, mainly houses in Majorna. He was enrolled as a pupil at the school of the Satisfaction Association when he was 17. At the same school, sedemera renamed the School of Art Industry, he worked as a teacher for 18 years from 1947. After his schooling, he worked as an advertising cartoonist at SKF as a lithographer at Oscar Isacson’s printing house. During the holidays he was able to leave with the Marstrana boat and stay for the islands for a few days, paint and photograph, then danger further. Gothenburg and Bohusländer have been and are the areas from which Artur Nilsson derives his motives. Photographed, Artur Nilsson has since he acquired his first camera at the age of 17. The exhibition shows photos from the old Majorna, from the Fishing Harbour, the quays in the port of Gothenburg and the portrait of comrades."
