Scholl Reaction

AbstractThe Scholl reaction is a Lewis acid‐catalyzed coupling of aromatic compounds while eliminating two of the aryl‐bound hydrogens and is generally known as Scholl condensation. Occasionally, this reaction is also referred to as the Scholl oxidation. This study finds that the use of molten SbCl3,and anhydrous HF facilitate the formation of a Scholl condensation product. This reaction is useful in the production of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and carbon nanotube segments.
