AbstractThe label “Villanovan culture” describes the Early Iron Age (ca. 900–700BCE), cultures of central and northern Italy, specifically in the areas of Etruria and the province of Reggio‐Emilia. Giovanni Gozzadini created this label in 1853 when he recognized what he saw as a distinct cultural period among artifacts from the Podere di Caselle necropolis near Bologna; his nearby estate provided inspiration for the name Villanovan.
