Valley (Gu)

View through Harvard Museums
The following printer's colophon appears on the back of the print: CHEN CHI KWAN / "Clear day", 1990 / Original lithograph, size 72 x 37 cm / Printed in France / by Ateliers d'Art Desjobert - Paris / 1996. Despite the title given in the printer's colophon, we should use the title "Valley", since that is the English-language title inscribed by the artist on the print's face. Produced, printed and published by Ateliers d'Art Desjobert, Paris, this actual-size, facsimile lithograph is based on a painting that Chen Chi-kwan did in 1990 in ink and colors on paper; now in a private collection, the painting was titled "Valley" by the artist. The painting is published in Taibei shili meishuguan / Taipei Fine Arts Museum, compiler, Yunyan guoyan: Chen Qikuan di huihua yu jianzhu / Painting and Architecture of Chen Chi-kwan, exh, cat., Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taipei, Taiwan: Taipei Fine Arts Museum, 2003, p. 235, no. 375 (bilingual, Chinese and English).
Department of Asian Art From the collection of the artist through his daughter (Ms. Chih Chen) Harvard Art Museums/Arthur M. Sackler Museum Purchase through the generosity of David M. Leventhal and through the David Berg Esq. Fund
