De illegale handel in wilde dieren en planten is uitgegroeid tot een van de meest winstgevende vormen van georganiseerde criminaliteit. In februari 2016 heeft de Europese Commissie een EU-actieplan tegen de illegale handel in wilde dieren en planten gepresenteerd. Een van de prioriteiten van het EU-actieplan is om bestaande regels toe te passen. Dit artikel beschrijft de in Nederland geldende regels met betrekking tot de illegale handel in wilde dieren en planten.
