TREATMENT OF CONGENITAL PSEUDOARTHROSIS OF TIBIA AFTER MULTIPLE FAILED ATTEMPTS: A CASE REPORT
View through CrossRef
Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) is a condition that refers to nonunion of fracture of the tibia
that develops after minimal trauma or spontaneously in a dysplastic bone segment of the diaphysis of the
tibia. We present a case of a 10-year-old boy with pseudoarthrosis of tibia after a history of fall at the age of four years. The distal
part of the tibia got fractured and was treated by multiple surgical interventions but it failed to unite. There developed a severe
angulation at the fracture site. We treated the case by excising and freshening the adjacent ends of both the tibia and bula,
lengthening the tendons of TA, FHL & FDL to correct the exion deformity at the Pseudarthrosis site, and by using a simple
Steinmann pin as an internal xation device followed by additional support by an ankle foot orthosis after cast removal.
