Abstract
Wanting or desiring has traditionally occupied a central role in explanations of intentional action. Obviously, we do not do-or even try to do―everything that we want to do. Sometimes an agent’s wants com pete. When that happens, the “strongest” wants prevail―or so it is standardly claimed.
