Algunas calas en el diálogo entre Francisco de Quevedo y «La torre de Babilonia» de Antonio Enríquez Gómez

This study focuses on Antonio Enríquez Gómez’s literary tributes to the work of Francisco de Quevedo. His references to the author of Sueños reveal many artistic affinities, visible for example in El siglo pitagórico y Vida de don Gregorio Guadaña, in La Inquisición de Lucifer and, most of all, in La torre de Babilonia. Sometimes even Enríquez Gómez tries to reiterate and rework Quevedo’s procedures, although without reaching his originality and ingenuity. Beyond the social distance and ideological divergences between the authors, in La torre de Babilonia Enríquez Gómez reworks and transforms Quevedo’s material, especially the figure and role of the necromancer Marquis of Villena in the Sueño del infierno. The relationship between La torre de Babilonia and Sueños needs a more detailed and comprehensive work than has been done to date. In particular, it calls for an analysis between the Política de Dios, gobierno de Cristo and the two issues of the Política angélica, whose title seems already to be a copy of the one used by Quevedo.
