Nogmaals over eenzaamheid en ASS

In het WTA-nummer 3 van 2015 vindt u een overzichtsartikel over de thematiek eenzaamheid en autisme, geschreven op ons verzoek, door de Turkse hoogleraar Baris Korkman. In zijn bijdrage werden tal van aspecten rond eenzaamheid besproken, waaronder de risico’s voor psychiatrische problematiek. Al met al komt eenzaamheid veel voor bij mensen met autisme met vaak enorme consequenties voor hun kwaliteit van leven, aldus Korkman. Aangekomen bij de neurobiologie bespreekt hij studies die aangeven dat eenzaamheid en autisme op dezelfde hersengebieden laden, wat de immens complexe vraag rond causaliteit illustreert, temeer omdat mensen met autisme, anders dan vaak wordt gedacht, wel degelijk op zoek zijn naar vriendschap, menselijke warmte en intimiteit (zie ook Strunz et al., 2017).
