AbstractPublius Aelius Aristides (117–ca. 180CE) was an Antonine Sophist active in Asia Minor, and is by far the best preserved of those catalogued by Philostratus in hisLives of the Sophists. His multi‐faceted corpus gives us a detailed glimpse of intellectual and political life in the Antonine age, particularly from a Greek perspective.
