Modinagar : A Historical Introduction

Modinagar, whose ancient name was Begumabad, is hiding a history in itself. The city we know today as Modinagar was founded by Padma Vibhushan Rai Bahadur Seth Gurjar Mal Modi, who settled this industrial area. Rai Bahadur Gurjar Mal Modi's name is one of the famous industrialists of the country who have achieved fame not only in the country but also abroad due to his hard work and efficiency. Established many miles in Modinagar and produced many types of items, out of which cloth, ModiPon, sugar, lantern is prominent. The quality of the lantern made in his factory was at par with the lantern of Germany. The count of all the items made in Modi ji miles was up to the country and abroad. Even during the Second World War, he did not lag behind and established a fertilizer mill in which low-weight materials were made.Which helped in keeping more quantity of food items for the soldiers in the war. In 1947, when India became independent, it was facing the problem of settling the refugees, even then Modi ji established a settlement for the refugees in Modinagar and also gave business to them. For these services, the government honored him with Padma Vibhushan, today this is not the industrial Modinagar, which was once settled by Gujarmal Modi. Abstract in Hindi Lanaguage: मोदीनगर जिसका पुरातन नाम बेगमाबाद था, वह अपने आप में एक इतिहास को छिपाये हुए है। आज हम जिस शहर मोदीनगर के रूप में जानते है उसकी स्थापना पद्म भूषण राय बहादुर सेठ गूजरमल मोदी के द्वारा की गयी, जिन्होने इस औद्योगिक क्षेत्र को बसाया था। राय बहादुर गूजर मल मोदी का नाम देश के उन प्रसिद्ध उघोगपतियों में है जिन्होंने अपनी कर्मठता एवं कार्यदक्षता के कारण देश ही नही अपितु विदेशो में भी यश प्राप्त किया हैं। उन्होंने मोदीनगर में अनेको मिलों को स्थापित किया और अनेकों प्रकार की वस्तुओं का उत्पादन किया जिसमें से कपड़ा, मोदीपोन, चीनी, लालटेन मिल प्रमुख हैं। इनकी फैक्टरी में बनी लालटेन की क्वालिटी जर्मनी की लालटेन के बराबर की थी। मोदी जी मिल में बनी सभी वस्तुओं की गिनती देश व विदेश तक थी। द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के समय भी ये पीछे नहीं रहे और एक ऐसी खाद्य मिल की स्थापना कि जिसमेे कम भार का खाद्य सामग्री बनाई जाती थी, जिसे युद्ध में जवाने के अधिक मात्रा का खाद्य रखने मे मदद मिलती थी। 1947 में जब भारत स्वतन्त्र हुआ तो शरणर्थियों को बसाने के समस्या का सामना कर तब भी मोदी जी ने शरणर्थियों के लिए एक बस्ती मोदीनगर में बसाई ओर व्यवसाय भी दिया। इनकी इन्ही सेवा के लिए सरकार ने इन्हे पदम् भूषण से सम्मानित किया। आज वर्तमान में यह वह औद्योगिक मोदीनगर नहीं है जिसको कभी गुजर मल मोदी जी ने बसाया था। Keywords: मोदीनगर, गुजरमल मोदी, मील, शरणार्थी द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध, ऐतिहासिकता
