Early cultural and sporting careers of adolescents and the importance of peer cultures

View through Europeana Collections
"This paper presents results from the first phase of a qualitative longitudinal study that examines early cultural and sporting careers of young people as well as their educational pathways at secondary schools (German 'Gymnasien') with special profiles in these fields. It focuses on the relevance of peer cultures to dual educational careers. The first part addresses the lack of research and presents the relevant theoretical points of reference as well as the design of the study. The core of the paper is the sense-genetic typology of the ways peer cultures has become relevant for career development, as exemplified by short case studies. A conclusion summarizes the results and relates them to the current state of research." (author's abstract)
