An oblong binding motif (approximately 10x2 cm) is tied in parallel rows along the length of the dress.
(On the front of the dress, 7 rows; about 10 ties per row)(see M6-46).
\A pattern: Bled (see M6-47)\A piece of fabric has been tied off in the same way (pattern Bled) and dyed (with Kola) as 5212-9.
\Mrs.

Tela is Krio for tailor (cf.

\If you compare 5212-9 with 5270-7a, which have the same pattern, the difference being that in 5212-9 the intention seems to have been to tie alternately a row of short Bled and a row of long Bled, whereas in 5270-7a this variation was not pursued.
\If you compare 5270-7a with 5212-9, you will find that it is a better quality Gara than 5212-9, because:\If you compare 5212-9 with 5270-7a, you will find that the pattern is sharper than that of 5212-9.
The pattern is sharper.
Apparently, 5270-7a was knotted tightly and 5212-9 was not; in fact, three ties were loosened.
‖ The pattern is more pronounced.
Apparently 5270-7a was dyed longer in Kola than 5212-9.
The latter probably could not be dyed longer because the bonds were too loose.
The paint would have penetrated everywhere and the pattern would have been hardly or not at all visible anymore.
The pattern is more regular.
Of 5270-7a the bindings are of equal size and distance and all are of the same shape.
It is quite possible to alternate a row of short and a row of long Bled, but this should have been done consistently, which was not done in 5212-9.
And per row the bindings should have been the same, which is not the case with 5212-9.
