Étude de la décision prise par le démos de la ville ionienne de Métropolis de commémorer le rétablissement de sa liberté par les Romains en 133 av. J.-C. Par la remise en contexte du document ( I.Metropolis , Hauptseite) dans le cadre du discours hellénistique de la liberté, il nous semble que les Métropolitains faisaient référence à un sens atavique de la liberté de la polis. Ce sens éclaire notre compréhension des relations entre états grecs et romain par le rôle que jouait la liberté dans les communications entre Rome et l'Orient hellénique au IIe et Ier siècles av. J.-C.
