Toning
View through CrossRef
This study was undertaken in an attempt to define toning more clearly and establish a theoretical basis for future research. The acoustic, physiologic, and psychologic parameters of spontaneous and sustained self-generated vocal sound were investigated. Findings indicate that there is a measurable vibration which radiates from the vocal apparatus which impacts the person who tones internally, through resonance and bone-conducted hearing, and externally, by way of the external auditory canal. Although pre-music, sustained vocal sound may affect the limbic system as does music. There is enough evidence to warrant further investigation in the area of toning and pain reduction. Furthermore, toning is seen as an adjunctive tool in music therapy.
