Les conditions d’impression de l’édition originale du Cid, parue en mars 1637, n’avaient pas bénéficié de la même attention que la tragi-comédie elle-même ou que l’événement littéraire qu’elle avait produit. Quelques rares chercheurs avaient mis au jour l’existence de deux éditions in-4? parues dès 1637, et avaient repéré l’intervention de deux compositeurs pour le texte. Restait à découvrir les ateliers d’imprimerie à Paris et à préciser la chronologie des différentes éditions entre 1637 et 1648.
