Abstract
The nucleotide sequence of p63 cDNA (EMBL accession number X69910) cloned from a human placenta cDNA library3 predicts a type II transmembrane protein of 601 amino acid residues without an N-terminal signal sequence. p63 is comprised of a 106 amino acids (N-terminal) cytosolic, a 21 amino acid putative transmembrane sequence, and a large luminal domain. The p63 cDNA sequence lacks consensus sites for N-glycosylation. The cytosolic domain of p63 includes unusual stretches rich in proline, glycine or alanine. The p63 cDNA shows homologies with a pig gene whose expression in the liver is enhanced after resuscitation from circulatory shock4. Hence, p63 may be a stress protein.
