Landscape from Cassis

Career: Work done during the artist’s stay in Cassis, when he states himself as a prominent exponent of European postimpressionism. Landscape inspired by Cassis, representing overlapped houses, slightly geometrized, the silhouette of a church and the seaside. Hot colors, with the predominance of shades of ocher, bluish gray, green, rendering the picturesque landscape transfigured by the sun’s rays. The forms come to life through small, pictorial cough of impressionist bill. Signed lower left, with ocher: "L. Grigorescu’.
