This is an oil painting in a gold painted frame. It depicts a boy taking his father's lunch in a chip basket to the harvest field on Walford's Farm, Over Norton, Oxfordshire. It was painted by Colonel H. Dawkins of Over Norton House, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire in circa 1894. Colonel Dawkins was the Squire of Over Norton and painted oil paintings for a hobby, several of which he gave to the villagers. The model for this painting was the donor's father, Bernard Charles Worvill, who was about ten years old at the time and whose father was a labourer on the Over Norton estate. The donor himself attended the University of Reading, earning a B.A. in English, History and Latin and then a Diploma in Education in June 1930. He bequeathed the painting to MERL in his will.
