Revolução e dependência

We try to understand the particular links between the concepts of "dependence" and "revolution" in the formulations of the so-called Escola Paulista de Sociologia after the 1964 coup, the proposed article examines the analyzes of Florestan Fernandes and Fernando Henrique Cardoso on the establishment of the military regime, with emphasis on those found in the essays "Dependence and development in Latin America" (1967) and "The Brazilian political model" (1972), both by Cardoso, and "The bourgeois revolution in Brazil" (1975), by Florestan Fernandes. In addition to indicating the different meanings of the concepts of "revolution" and "dependence" in the works of the two authors, it will be argued that both point out that the process of modernization in dependent societies is ambivalent, insofar as it tends to tension the demands for deepening capitalist accumulation and demands for the expansion of citizenship.
