Abstract In science, it has long been said that proper method is more important than genius. Accordingly, Raymond Adams’ accomplishment derived as much from his systematic approach to studying disease as from his brilliance. A third factor, industry, was equally responsible for his success. After studying this man, I came to understand that Adams’ career exemplifies William Osler’s dictum: “the master-word is Work.”
