Tulio’s Legacy

This chapter provides an overview on how Tulio’s films have been received at different periods. Though never an unambiguous figure, in his early career Tulio was generally regarded as a welcome innovator within Finnish cinema. From the late 1940s on, critics had more and more mixed feelings about Tulio’s excessive and sensationalist melodramas. However, after hitting a low point in the 1960s and 1970s, Tulio’s critical reputation started gradually to rise again.
