A CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF SWEDAVAHA SROTAS, SWEDA & SWEDA DUSHTI IN VARIOUS VYADHIS ACCORDING TO CHARAK SAMHITA

Sweda is enumerated among the important Malas in Ayurveda, playing a vital role in sustaining Sharir Dhatu Samyata and maintaining Swasthya. Acharyas have explained Swedotpatti as a natural process linked with Dhatu Parinaman, where Sweda is formed from Kitta Bhaga of Meda, which is regulated through Swedavaha Srotas. Swedavaha Srotas is one of the Antarmukha Srotas explained by Acharya Charak. Any deviation in its physiological process leads to Sweda Dushti, which manifests as Atisweda and Asweda. Descriptions in Charak Samhita highlight that Sweda Dushti occurs as Purvaroopa, Roopa, or Upadrava in var-ious Vyadhis. Its observation holds diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic significance. By analysing the refer-ences across Samhita, one can understand the role of Sweda Dushti in Dosha Dushti, Srotodushti, and Samprapti Ghataka of many Vyadhis. This conceptual review focuses on references to Sweda Dushti in different Vyadhis as narrated in the Charak Samhita, aiming to compile and analyse its significance in diagnosis, prognosis, and the planning of Chikitsa.
