Pioneering Eco Urban Design
View through CrossRef
Abstract:
Pioneering Eco Urban Design provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary analysis of how cities can transition toward ecological resilience, social equity, and technological innovation in the Anthropocene. The book situates eco-urbanism within the intellectual and historical evolution of urban design, tracing a trajectory from industrial-era planning and modernist paradigms to contemporary green city and regenerative design movements. It develops a conceptual framework that positions urban systems as living ecologies, emphasizing the necessity of harmonizing human settlements with natural processes.
Structured across six chapters, the book examines foundational theories, ecological integration strategies, and methodological tools that shape eco-urban research and practice. It highlights the role of circular economy principles, adaptive design strategies, and digital innovations such as GIS, BIM, and digital twins in reimagining urban metabolism. Equally central are the social and institutional dimensions—community participation, governance frameworks, financing models, and equity considerations—that determine the viability of eco-urban initiatives. Case studies from diverse global contexts illustrate both pioneering achievements and persistent barriers, while scenario planning and foresight studies chart pathways for future cities.
By synthesizing design practice, ecological theory, and governance innovation, Pioneering Eco Urban Design advances a global research agenda centered on justice, inclusivity, and resilience. It provides scholars, policymakers, and practitioners with a rigorous analytical foundation and a visionary roadmap for shaping sustainable and equitable urban futures.
