An experimental comparison of the tonal qualities of a Chinese flute and a Western flute
View through CrossRef
The Chinese flute has an oval, membrane-covered hole between the embouchure hole and the first tone hole. This paper presents spectrum measurements of individual notes from a Chinese flute and from a Western flute. The results indicate that the flute membrane enhances the harmonies of the flute notes and results in richer tones.
