Through an objective and well-reasoned approach to the ethnogenesis of Montenegrins, Vojislav P. Nikčević was persistently trying to demystify the subjectivistic theory about Montenegrin people and nation, particularly in relation to the national (ethnic) and linguistic being of Montenegrins. He strongly criticizes an approach trying to legalize “Serbian consciousness” in Montenegro, and ethnic and linguistic “Serbian being of Montenegrins” based on it. He also advocates re-evaluating the arguments of Vasilije Đerić, the founder of such subjectivist approach of “Serbian consciousness in Montenegro”, and he, in an objective and thorough manner, refutes most of Đerić’s claims on the nature of „mentioning the Serbian name in Montenegro“.
