Woven
View through Europeana Collections
Woven fabric of unbleached loamy and brown toned red yellow wool yarn; patterned double weave.
The pattern consists of a stretcher with crosses in squares along the short sides and one long side and a mirror with pattern figures in rows; stars, run-duded stars, virgins, geometric patterns with “mouth-belt stars.”
Frans of the Warp. Thrown with sewing thread over the top for the fabric not to be scratched up.
A label with illegible text is attached to the fringe.
Dating based on the fact that during the 1920s there was an interest in copying patterns from older alms, but similar tissues made in the 1930s can be found in the museum’s collections.
Very worn in the middle, parts of the lens apart. Big pale party with colour change to very bright yellow toned red (pink) colour.
For further information about the donor see UM016001
