Abstract
The epilogue traces the lives and afterlives of the Bright Circle in the years following Margaret Fuller’s tragic death in 1850. Fuller had become the first woman international correspondent and was living in Italy before her return to the U.S. News of her death rattled the lives of the other four women; each sought in her own way to fulfil the promise of Fuller’s Conversations. The epilogue concludes with a lecture at the end of the century recognizing Fuller as the true spirit of transcendentalism.
