The Introduction explains how the author’s fascination with the ontological argument for perfect being theism has motivated him to write this book. It then defines perfect being theism as the view that God, as the being than which no greater is conceivable or metaphysically possible, exists, and provides an overview of each part of the book: Part I offers a detailed survey of philosophical issues concerning perfect being theism. Part II focuses on existing arguments against perfect being theism and develops a radically new, economical refutation of them based on the ‘maximal concept’ of God. Part III defends two versions of the ontological argument, the stronger of which appeals to the maximal concept.
