The effect of hinokitiol agaist three plant pathogenic fungi and toxicity of hinokitiol to cucumber
View through CrossRef
Abstract
In the present study, the effect of hinokitiol agaist Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Rhizoctonia solani, and Botrytis cinerea and toxicity of hinokitiol to cucumber were determined. Overall, hinokitiol showed the promising antifungal activity against S. sclerotiorum both in vitroand in vivo. The results showed that hinokitiol inhibited cucumber seed germination and leaves photosynthesis, and had no obvious effect on the normal growth of seedlings. We also found that after the root treatment of hinokitiol at 50 µg/mL, cucumber seedlings wilted. Thestudy investigated hinokitiol had moderateantimicrobial activity and its preventive effect is significant. Hinokitiol is a promising spray fungicide candidate for stems and leaves rather than seed and root treatments.
