Red wrapskirt with jasmine

The wrapskirt is woven with cotton in a step loom. A wrap skirt is used only by women to cover the lower part of the body (hips, legs). In terms of function, it is similar to the skirt. A wraparound skirt is a square or rectangular piece of textile that is rolled around the body. \This type of wraparound skirt is characteristic of Nebaj: red and occasional weft threads of Jaspe, creating stripes. Jaspe is a dyeing technique in knots where decorative motifs are produced. Specific areas of the thread are covered (by knotting the thread in specific places) to prevent these areas from becoming coloured when the thread is dipped in the paint. When the knots are undone, after dyeing, the thread contains dyed and unpainted segments. During weaving, figures are formed with these threads. \The wraparound skirt consists of one strip, against which a few narrower strips of the same fabric are set. \No. 5072-278a through d were purchased together at the mercado de Domingo for Q 51, -.\Nebaj is located in the department of El Quiché. In 2007, Nebaj had a population of 70,456, of which 66,710 belonged to the Ixil culture.
