Paul Claudel au Brésil: traduire sa poésie en portugais

This article aims to present aspects of the context and the translation work involved in the publication in Brazilian Portuguese of Cinq Grandes Odes, Processionnal pour saluer le siècle nouveau, and Cantate à trois voix by Paul Claudel, published in 2021. At first, we evoke Claudel’s experience in Brazil, where he served as the diplomatic representative of France. Next, we present some elements of Claudel’s reception among Brazilian writers. Finally, we introduce the editorial and academic context in which our translation was produced and we discuss some strategies we used to convey in Portuguese the linguistic peculiarities of Claudel’s poetic language.
