Red wrapskirt

The wrapskirt (corte in Spanish) is woven with cotton in a step loom. Cotton threads have been used that have been dyed using the Jaspe technique (also known as the Ikat technique). Jaspe is a dyeing technique in knots where decorative motifs are produced. In this technique, specific parts of the thread are covered (by knotting the thread in specific places) to prevent these parts from becoming coloured when the thread is dipped in the paint. When the knots are undone, after dyeing, the thread contains dyed and unpainted segments. During weaving, figures are formed with these threads.A wrap skirt is used by women only to cover the lower part of the body (hips, legs). In terms of function, it is similar to the skirt. A wraparound skirt is a square or rectangular piece of textile that is wrapped around the body. This wraparound skirt is meant for daily use.‖ The background color of the wraparound skirt is red. Furthermore, this wraparound skirt is decorated with yellow stripes that are colored using the Jaspe technique.‖ Nebaj is located in the department of El Quiché. In 2007, Nebaj had a population of 70,456, of which 66,710 belong to the Ixil culture.
