<p class="resume" dir="ltr"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">Pour fêter la commémoration du 400</span><span style="font-family:"Courier New", monospace;color:#000000;"><sup>e</sup></span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;"> anniversaire de la découverte des Amériques par Christophe Colomb, une exposition universelle dite World’s Columbian Exposition a été organisée à Chicago en 1893. L’Égypte s’est fait remarquer par l’envoi de deux projets, dont la rue dite du Caire. Max Herz bey, architecte en chef du Comité de conservation des monuments de l’art arabe du Caire, fut le concepteur du projet ainsi que son maître d’œuvre. Dans la perspective de mieux situer la rue du Caire dans son contexte architectural, cette contribution donne un descriptif précis de l’Exposition universelle, suivi d’un historique du projet et d’une présentation des particularités propres à la rue du Caire. La priorité est donnée à la matérialité de la rue, sans omettre les aspects idéologiques et politiques.</span></p>
