A bust-length portrait of a man with the body turned to the right, but with the head facing us. He is slightly grey haired with sideburns. He is wearing a brown outercoat with large lapels, a black waistcoat and a white cravat worn high at the neck. The artist holds in his left hand some brushes and a palette with splashes of red and blue on it. On the right of the picture is the edge of an easel; a male portrait is just visible.
