The structure of NE Islay

Synopsis
The first phase of Caledonian deformation in NE Islay produced open folds with axial planar cleavage. At one locality two sub-phases of deformation are recognized. A probable syn-tectonic fault, the Bolsa Fault, is described. The Islay Anticline is a sinistral en-echelon anticlinorium whose axial region approximately parallels the Loch Skerrols Thrust.
