About the artist Stina Forssell: Born in Skellefteå, Västerbotten County, 1906. Raised in Uddevalla. Edvard Berggren’s Painting School in Stockholm 1924. Adopted to the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1927. The Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1928, Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1929, Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1930. Art Studies in Paris, Maison Watteau, 1930 Married between 1930-1936 (1938 in the Sveriges Distress Book 1947-2006; is inserted here as Forssel) with the artist and colleague Holger Gardelius Enequist (1908-1972). Active in Stockholm; portrait painting, landscape and still life, magazine and children’s book illustrator. Stina Forssell perished in a car accident in Skåne in 1970. According to correspondence in the archive between the museum’s Åke Fredsjö and a private person from 1971-1972, we see that it is Mrs Britt-Marie Weibull, NordenskiöEnligt, 76, Stockholm who helped with information about motivational determinations. On the catalogue cards are her initials B-M W. She was one of Stina Forssell’s friends. At the beginning of 2007 the request was made to the Skellefteå Museum, the Museum Anna Nordlander, Skellefteå and the Regional Museum in Kristianstad if they had works by Stina Forssell in the collections. She is not represented in any of the museums. She went on to Stockholm for art studies, and remained there for the rest of her life. Her production is great - landscapes, still lifes and portraits, as well as illustrations for the Idun and Svenska Dagbladet newspapers. However, she never had a solo exhibition. Stina Forssell was an original person with bizarre humor. Her friends sometimes tested it in the form of cartoons in letters. In the 1960s, she bought a summer house in Maglehem. Many fine small paintings depict the landscape on Österlen. Through a will, the museum has about 650 paintings and drawings of her in the collections. At the turn of 1991/1992, a larger exhibition was shown with her work at the Museum of Bohusläns. The Museum’s Yearbook Bohuslän 1988 contains an article about her life and works. Introductory text on the museum website 2007 in connection with presentation of 105 works: Stina Forssell (1906-1970) “She was called Uddevalla artist, but in fact she was born in Norrland and lived her entire adult life in Stockholm. She was the talented painter and artist, who had constantly portrayed portraits, but who did not have a single solo exhibition. She was also the girl, who did what fell her in. From her school time in Uddevalla there are many stories about her. Most are true.” In Bohusländer Yearbook 1988, Mimi Håkanson writes an article about Stina Forssell, starting with the above quote. In 2006 it was 100 years since Stina was born. Bohusläns museum wants to give tastings here of her rich production of landscapes, still lifes and portraits as well as illustrations for newspapers and books. Through a will, the museum received about 650 paintings and drawings after her death. Later, her former friends have also donated further material to the collections. Two solo exhibitions have been organised after her demise - in the summer of 1974 at Uddevalla museum and at the turn of 1991/1992 at Bohusläns museum. Stina Forssell signed her works with either the full name, S. Forssell-Enequist, S. Forssell or S.F. Her oil paintings are mostly made on paper.
