Analysis of Reagent Purity 1 : 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) (CDCl 3 ) 1.60 ppm (d, 3 H ), 1.75–2.55 (m, 4 H ), 3.80–4.55 (m, 2 H ). Preparative Methods: the title reagent can be prepared by the following procedure 1 : i ‐butyl 3‐acetoxypropyl methylphosphinate (200 g, 0.85 mol) was heated to 65–70 °C in a methanol solution of hydrogen chloride (400 mL, 0.68 M). During this process, methyl acetate was azeotropically distilled off from the reaction mixture with methanol. After 4–5 h, the solvent was removed under vacuum, and the residue was dried under vacuum at 50 °C. The crude mixture, which was mainly contaminated by i ‐butyl (3‐hydroxypropyl)‐methylphosphinate, was distilled under reduced pressure, affording the title product (100 g) in 98.5% yield. The reaction mixture was heated to 150 °C for 2 h. The excess of 1,3‐dibromopropane was removed under vacuum, and the mixture was purified by flash chromatography (CHCl 3 ), affording 1.34 g of the title compound (21% yield).
