<p>Involvement of Youth in the Development Programs of Selected Barangays of Caloocan City</p>

<p><span>This study examined the extent of youth involvement and influence in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Barangay Development Programs, with particular emphasis on Sports and Development initiatives in selected barangays of Caloocan City. Conducted in 2018 in Barangays 174, 175, and 176, the study was anchored on the government’s advocacy for youth participation in nation-building and the national policy of “Sports for All.” It sought to provide an empirical basis for strengthening youth participation and enhancing community-based development programs.</span></p> <p><span>A descriptive research design was employed involving 120 respondents, composed of 30 barangay officials and 90 youth participants. Data were gathered through survey questionnaires and interview guides, and analyzed using percentage distribution and weighted mean. Results indicated that youth development programs were generally aligned with their stated objectives and demonstrated sustainability, although implementation was constrained by variations in financial resources, facilities, and manpower. Youth involvement across the stages of planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation was consistently rated as “agree,” signifying meaningful participation and influence, particularly in planning and monitoring processes. However, challenges encountered in program implementation were assessed as “serious,” notably limited budgets, insufficient youth participation, and inadequate facilities.</span></p> <p><span>The study further identified Health and Anti-Drug Abuse as the priority area for program enhancement, followed by education and youth employment initiatives, while sports development ranked lower despite its recognized developmental value. Based on the findings, enhancement and alternative development strategies integrating sports, health promotion, and anti-drug abuse advocacy are proposed to address prevailing community needs. Overall, the study underscores the critical role of structured, adequately resourced, and institutionalized youth participation in ensuring effective and sustainable barangay development programs.</span></p>
