Digital Pharmacovigilance in AYUSH: Role of the Ayush Suraksha Portal in Drug Safety Monitoring

Background: The use of traditional medicines has increased significantly worldwide in recent years. With this growing use, ensuring the safety of AYUSH medicines has become increasingly important. Pharmacovigilance plays a key role in detecting, assessing, understanding and preventing adverse drug reactions (ADRs), thereby protecting public health. Methods: This review is based on information collected from official sources, government reports and available literature related to the Ayush Suraksha Portal and pharmacovigilance in the AYUSH system. Results: The Ministry of AYUSH launched the Ayush Suraksha Portal on 30th May 2025 to strengthen digital pharmacovigilance. The portal provides an online platform for reporting suspected ADRs related to AYUSH medicines. It enables centralized data collection, coordinated evaluation through national pharmacovigilance centres and use of standardized systems such as ICD-11 and National AYUSH Morbidity Codes. It also includes structured tools for causality assessment which improves the accuracy and reliability of ADR reporting. This digital system enhances accessibility, speeds up reporting and supports better detection of safety signals. Conclusion: The Ayush Suraksha Portal is an important step toward strengthening pharmacovigilance in the AYUSH sector. It improves ADR reporting, supports timely regulatory decisions and contributes to better patient safety. However, continued awareness and training are required to maximize its effectiveness.
