The collection of short stories by Natalia Borges Polesso, Amora (2022 [2015]), departs from what can be considered as “common” in the Brazilian literary scene, especially in the context of queer literature, bringing women and the different experiences related to lesbian love to the center of the discussion. Although the book won many of the main literary prizes in 2016 and gained popularity in the LGBTQIA+ community, Amora received little to no attention from the mainstream Brazilian media. On the other hand, the trajectory of Julia Sanches' translation into English from the United States and the United Kingdom, entitled Amora: Stories (2020), which reverberated through prestigious Anglophone media outlets, was different. This article, divided into two parts, first introduces the work and its author and comments on the impacts of the rise of the far-right party in the field of Brazilian culture; it then analyzes aspects of the translations of Amora into both Spanish and English. With the aim of proposing a reflection actively queer, this article seeks to debate the political significance of translation on a global level.
