From the history of merchant charity in Vyatka province: a look through the personality of Alexey Prozorov

Являясь продолжателем предпринимательских традиций своей семьи, торгуя сельскохозяйственной продукцией на рынках Европы, этот купец ярко проявил себя как в экономической сфере, так и в общественных делах, снискав уважение и почет у современников. А. Я. Прозоров внес ощутимый вклад в социально-экономическое развитие Вятской губернии; он являлся членом Вятского благотворительного общества – большие пожертвования вносил на содержание богадельни в г. Вятке, помогал населению в неурожайные годы. В июле 1892 г. император Александр III удовлетворил ходатайство Вятской городской думы о присвоении А. Я. Прозорову звания почетного гражданина г. Вятки. Общероссийское звучание его имя приобрело благодаря деятельности в Петербурге. Алексей Яковлевич избирался председателем Санкт-Петербургского биржевого комитета, являлся членом Клуба общественных деятелей, членом партии «Союз 17 октября», был членом III Государственной думы. А. Я. Прозоров стал воплощением нового облика предпринимателя – образованного, гуманистически ориентированного, активного в общественной и политической жизни. the article describes the development of merchant charity in the Russian province through the biography of a prominent representative of the business world of the second half of the XIX – early XX century Alexei Yakovlevich Prozorov (1842–1914). As a successor of the entrepreneurial traditions of his family, trading in agricultural products in the markets of Europe, this merchant clearly showed himself in the economic sphere and in public Affairs, gaining respect and honor among his contemporaries. A. Y. Prozorov has made a significant contribution to socio-economic development of the Vyatka province; he was a member of the Vyatka charitable society - he made large donations for the maintenance of the almshouse in Vyatka, helped the population in lean years. In July 1892, Emperor Alexander III granted the petition of the Vyatka city Council to confer the title of honorary citizen of Vyatka to A. Y. Prozorov. All-Russian sound of his name acquired through activities in St. Petersburg. Alexey Yakovlevich was elected Chairman of The St. Petersburg stock exchange Committee, was a member of the Club of public figures, a member of the party "Union October 17", was a member of the III state Duma. Prozorov became the embodiment of a new image of the entrepreneur – educated, humanistically oriented, active in public and political life.
