Un prince du sang en Languedoc, Armand de Bourbon-Conti : de la débauche aux mortifications

A Prince of the Blood in Languedoc, Armand de Bourbon-Conti : from Debauchery to Mortification. Prince of the blood, named governor of Languedoc in 1660, Armand de Bourbon-Conti inherited in 1651 the County of Pezenas, where he liked to reside up to his death in 1666. After his dissolute youth, he underwent a profound crisis of consciousness towards 1655. Under the direction of two men close to Jansenist beliefs, the Bishop of Alet Nicolas Pavilion and Abbé de Ciron, he thereafter led a pious and austere life turned towards prayer and mortifications. His conversion brought about a radical change in his life style and his way of thinking and had an impact upon his relationship to the population of Pezenas which he sought to moralize while at the same time lightening its tax burden.
