Anal Stenoz
View through CrossRef
Anal stenosis is defined as the abnormal narrowing of the anus, significantly impacting patients' quality of life, and can arise from anatomical reasons or functional spasms, with postoperative scar tissue—especially after hemorrhoidectomy—being the most common etiology. Patients typically present with symptoms such as difficulty in defecation, pain, and bleeding, while diagnosis is primarily established through physical examination and digital rectal exam. Conservative management, including dietary adjustments, laxatives, and dilatation, is preferred for mild cases; however, surgical intervention becomes inevitable for moderate to severe stenosis. Surgical options encompass anal dilatation and various flap techniques—such as advancement, island (e.g., V-Y, House), and rotational flaps—designed to transfer healthy tissue to the narrowed area. The treatment strategy must be individualized based on the severity, location, and length of the stenosis, and the condition is largely preventable through the use of protective surgical techniques during initial anorektal procedures.
